Gentiles are all the peoples of the world apart from Israel.
The King James and other early English translations use this
name 'Gentiles' but the same word in the original is far more
often translated 'nations' and there appears to be no reason
for making a difference between these two words. More recent
translations such as the NIV use 'nations', except where the
writer wants to contrast Jew and Gentile.
"
but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does
good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile." (Romans
2:10).
(See also HEATHEN; NATIONS).
