Abraham's
name means 'father of the faithful'.
It was changed by God from 'Abram'.
"The Lord said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your people
and your father's household and go to the land I will show
you.'" (Genesis 12:1).
"No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be
Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations."
(Genesis 17:5).
Abraham is the ancestor of the Jewish people, and we, by our
adoption in Christ, become his children and inherit the promises
God made to him.
"Understand, then, that those who believe are children
of Abraham
. those who have faith are blessed along with
Abraham, the man of faith." (Galatians 3:7-9).
(See
also PROMISE).
