In the Old Testament two Hebrew words adamah and erets are
usually translated 'earth', 'ground', 'land' or 'country',
and these words refer to the physical earth, and the ground
or land upon which God's creation lives.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
(Genesis 1:1).
The equivalent New Testament Greek word for 'earth' is ge.
"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
(Matthew 5:5).
(see also HEAVENS AND EARTH).
