An Assembly of God's People.
The Greek word ekklesia is found 115 times in the New Testament
and is wrongly translated 'church' on all but three occasions,
when it is given the correct translation of 'assembly'. Ekklesia
means an assembly or congregation, people separated for a
purpose. In the Bible this purpose is usually to serve God.
Where the word is correctly translated in the New Testament,
the reference is to an assembly brought together, in fact
a riotous mob, to secure the arrest of the apostle Paul: "Paul
wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would
not let him
the assembly (ekklesia) was in confusion:
Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people
did not even know why they were there." (Acts 19:30-32).
