Evil spirits are not a manifestation of supernatural evil.
In the Bible, an 'evil spirit' can describe:
1.
Bodily illness or disability, or mental affliction.
"At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases,
sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were
blind. So he replied to the messengers [from John the Baptist],
'Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard:
the blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy
are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good
news is preached to the poor.'" (Luke 7:21-22).
2.
Jealousy, anger, or violence.
"Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and
an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him. Saul's attendants
said to him, 'See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you'
.
Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take
his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would
feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him." (1
Samuel 16:14-15,23; see also 1 Kings 22:19-23).
3.
Suspicion and hatred.
"God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the citizens
of Shechem, who acted treacherously against Abimelech."
(Judges 9:23).
