Although in the Bible the word 'judge' relates to a person
who sits in judgement, whether God or man, the word is also
used to describe the tribal rulers who were judges of Israel,
leading the children of Israel in the period between the Exodus
and the monarchy: "Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of
Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time." (Judges 4:4,
NIV footnote).
In the same way, when Jesus returns to the earth, he will
judge, or rule the whole world: "I charge thee therefore
before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the
quick [living] and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom."
(2 Timothy 4:1, KJV).
