Regeneration.
There must be a complete change from our old way of life to
the new life in Christ. Jesus and the apostles call it being
'born again', not physically, which would be impossible, but
spiritually, in our hearts and minds (see John 3:1-8). Christ's
teaching is not an addition to our human way of thinking,
but a complete reversal of human standards, making a new beginning
essential.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God,
who reconciled us to Himself through Christ..." (2 Corinthians
5:17-18; and see Galatians 6:14-18; Ephesians 4:17-32).
Our new birth occurs when we are influenced and convinced
by the word of God, the spirit of Christ; and consent to baptism
in water, to identify ourselves with Christ and to mark the
beginning of a new life, just as a baby leaves the waters
of the womb.
