Temptation comes from within us. It is our own basic nature
rejecting guidance and instruction from God. Temptation can
also be also encouragement from others to do what is wrong.
When Jesus tells us to pray to God "Lead us not into
temptation" (Matthew 6:13), this must imply that God
does not want us to experience evil, unless it is to test
us for our own good and to strengthen us. The apostle James
explains: "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting
me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt
anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire,
he is dragged away and enticed." (James 1:13-14).
James also says: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers,
whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that
the testing of your faith develops perseverance
so that
you may be mature and complete." (James 1:2-4).
