The word 'testament' means a covenant or an agreement. The Bible is divided into the Old and the New Testaments. The Old Testament relates the covenants or agreements God made with his people Israel at various times in their history, and how those covenants were either kept or broken.

The New Testament is the account of the covenant God makes with us through Jesus Christ.
