Way is another word for 'path' or 'road'. It is the direction
in which we ought to go. Sometimes it is clearly marked out
for us; sometimes we have to find our own way. It also means
how we do things. In our spiritual life there is God's way
and there is man's way and they lie in opposite directions.
We ask God: "Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk
in your truth." (Psalm 86:11). John the Baptist was sent
by God to "prepare your [Jesus'] way before you."
(Luke 7:27) by preaching repentance and baptism.
In the early days of the Church, the teaching of Christ came
to be known as "the Way", before the followers of
Christ were given the name "Christians" (see Acts
9:2; 16:17; 18:25; 19:9; 22:4; 24:22). Paul said at his trial:
"I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower
of the Way, which they [the Jews] call a sect." (Acts
24:14).
"And now I will show you the most excellent way."
(1 Corinthians 12:31).
