In the book of Daniel (in the KJV) Daniel prophesies the coming
of "Messiah the Prince" (Daniel 9:25, KJV). In other
English translations this is translated "the anointed
one".
In the New Testament we have "Christ" which is the
Greek form of the Hebrew word Messiah. "The first thing
Andrew did was
tell him, 'We have found the Messiah'
(that is, the Christ)" (John 1:41).
On another occasion Jesus explains himself to the Samaritan
woman, and tells her that he is in fact the Messiah, or Christ
(in John 4:25,26).
Jesus Christ is, at the same time, the Messiah of the Old
Testament who will restore the kingdom of Israel and reign
on the throne of his father David; and the Christ of the New
Testament, the Son of God who came preaching the gospel of
salvation to all mankind, and who will return to establish
the kingdom of God on earth.
