The Escape from the Consequences of Sin.
Salvation is 'to be made safe'. God brings us salvation in
Christ, without which we are in danger of perishing. Zechariah,
the father of John the Baptist understood this and praised
God in these words, celebrating the birth of his son John:
"You will
give His people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender
mercy of our God
." (Luke 1:76-78).
The saving work of Christ is foretold by the prophet Zechariah:
"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter
of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having
salvation
." (Zechariah 9:9; see also Matthew 21:4-11).
"Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be
saved." (Acts 2:21, KJV).
