RESTORATION
R

The World Renewed.

There are two 'restorations' of Israel referred to in the Bible, and also a complete restoration of the world:

1. The restoration of Israel after their return from captivity in Babylon under Ezra and Nehemiah
The nation of Israel was restored to its land by the command of the Persian king Cyrus in 536 BC, after they had been in captivity in Babylon for 70 years.
"Anyone of His people among you-may His God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel." (Ezra 1:3).

More than five hundred years later, at the time Jesus was on earth, the disciples together with most of Israel, lived in anticipation of the restoration of the monarchy (see Luke 24:19-21) foretold by the prophets (see Zechariah 10:6-12; 14:9-11). The disciples had been taught by Jesus that when Israel was restored fully he, Jesus, would reign as king, and they would be there to support him.

"…When the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matthew 19:28).

Before his ascension, they asked Jesus: "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" (Acts 1:6). Jesus did not answer their question directly at that time, but a few days later, an enlightened Peter was able to announce to the people of Jerusalem:

"He [Jesus] must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as He promised long ago through His holy prophets." (Acts 3:21).

The restoration of Israel as a nation, and the enthronement of Jesus Christ as their king is an event yet in the future.
